Infrastructure

Long-form notes on the systems that support discovery and distribution on the open web.

Scope

The web is held up by a relatively small number of systems — DNS, CDNs, indexers, ad networks, payment rails, identity providers, hosting platforms — most of which are invisible to the people who depend on them every day. This section collects long-form notes on those systems: what they do, how they fit together, how they fail, and how independent operators can build durable work on top of them.

Less timely than research, more concrete than essays.
