Best Developer Directories

Directories and registries in the verified dataset that accept developer tools, libraries and packages.

Introduction

Developer-facing directories are mostly package registries and platform marketplaces rather than business listings. The distinction matters: you do not submit a company to crates.io, you publish an artefact. What is being listed is a library, an extension or an image, and the audience is people who will install it.

That changes what a listing is for. A registry entry is distribution, not marketing.

Evidence base

Evidence base: 31 of 64 verified directories in the PetroHrys dataset accept developer tools. Every figure and table on this page is generated from those records at build time. Fields that were never established are shown as Unknown rather than filled in.

Who should use these

Teams shipping libraries, SDKs, CLI tools, IDE extensions or container images, and companies whose product is consumed by developers.

How to read this list

Publishing to a language registry is normally free and fast, and the real work is documentation rather than approval. Platform marketplaces (Atlassian, Salesforce, Shopify) are the opposite: listing is gated by partner processes and review, and pricing is frequently not published.

Frequently asked questions

Do package registries review submissions for quality?

Generally not. Most registries in this dataset accept anything that meets packaging rules; none of them is recorded as performing editorial quality review. That is why a good README or model card matters more than the listing itself.
